Pune, 27th May 2026: The land acquisition process for the proposed international airport at Purandar has gathered momentum after the compensation formula for affected farmers was finalized.

Farmers across the project area have now started submitting affidavits to hand over their land, allowing the administration to speed up acquisition work.

According to district officials, affidavits for nearly 1,535 acres have already been received. The airport project requires around 3,000 acres in total, and nearly half of the land is now under the district administration’s possession.

The state government has approved a compensation structure under which farmers will receive a minimum of ₹1.61 crore per acre. Officials said the final payout is expected to rise to nearly ₹2 crore per acre after including compensation for houses, orchards, borewells, trees, and other assets on the land. The compensation is nearly four times higher than the earlier land value in the region.

The administration has already distributed around ₹450 crore to landowners, while the Maharashtra government has released an additional ₹500 crore to continue the payment process. Farmers who completed documentation and signed consent agreements have started receiving compensation directly in their bank accounts from May 7.

District Collector Jitendra Dudi said the land acquisition process is being carried out across seven villages identified for the airport project. He stated that compensation is currently being paid directly to original landowners, and payments are transferred immediately after agreements are completed.

Officials believe the response from farmers has improved significantly after the compensation rates were finalized, helping the long-pending airport project move ahead at a faster pace.
