A total of 14 Green Tree Pythons (Morelia viridis), including one found dead, four Double-eyed Fig Parrots (Cyclopsitta diophthalma), and two extremely rare Sumatran Striped Rabbits (Nesolagus netscheri) were discovered in their possession. All animals were reportedly in poor condition upon discovery.

The seizure has led to a case being registered under the Customs Act, 1962, along with relevant provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Both accused have been arrested, and investigations are underway to identify the source and intended destination of the smuggled species.

Neha Panchmia, founder of RESQ Charitable Trust, said her team immediately responded to provide medical attention to the rescued animals and has continued to monitor their condition. The animals are currently being kept under controlled conditions at the airport to minimize stress during their stay.

Deportation procedures are being processed in compliance with the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), and the animals are expected to be repatriated within 24 to 36 hours, pending court clearance. RESQ veterinarians will conduct follow-up visits to ensure the animals remain stable until their return.
