Pune, 5th June 2025: Pune residents can breathe a sigh of relief as the region’s major dams have sufficient water stock to last the entire year, according to the latest update from the irrigation department. Timely rainfall and efficient water management have helped maintain healthy storage levels across the key dams supplying water to the city and its suburbs.
As per current data, the Khadakwasla dam, which is crucial for Pune’s water supply, is 57.70% full. Panshet stands at 57.43%, Varasgaon at 63.42%, and Temghar, typically slower to fill, has reached 47.36%. Nearby reservoirs such as Mulshi (71.25%), Pawana (61.40%), Chasakaman (65.38%), Vadaj (69.71%), and Dimbhe (48.74%) are also holding encouraging levels.
This storage is expected to comfortably meet Pune’s domestic water needs for the year, even with a slight delay in the monsoon’s full onset. However, the situation remains challenging in rural parts of the Pune division. Currently, 93 tankers are supplying water to 81 villages, with 45 in Satara and 30 in Pune district, affecting nearly 1.39 lakh people.
Meanwhile, the weather in Pune has seen a pleasant shift. Over the past two days, light showers have cooled down the city, bringing a drop in maximum temperatures. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Saturday (July 5) is expected to see a high of 27°C and a low of 23°C, with partly cloudy skies and light to moderate rain.
Looking ahead, no major weather changes are expected. The maximum temperature is likely to remain stable around 27°C for the next few days, with a continued chance of scattered showers in Pune and moderate to heavy rainfall in the ghat regions. Authorities continue to monitor both water usage and weather closely to ensure steady supply and timely updates.
