Pune, 27 February 2026: MLA Rohit Pawar on Thursday announced that he will approach the court in connection with the Baramati plane crash case, alleging that police have refused to register an FIR despite findings of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reportedly holding VSR Aviation Company responsible for the accident.
Speaking to reporters in Pune, Pawar said they had demanded that a case be registered at Mumbai’s Marine Drive Police Station and Baramati Police Station based on the DGCA report. However, the police declined, stating that since the investigation is currently being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), a separate FIR cannot be filed.
Pawar rejected this reasoning, asserting that citizens have the right to demand registration of a criminal case. He said CID officials informed them that the probe is progressing in the right direction and that the DGCA report has not yet been formally received by them.
However, Pawar expressed suspicion of possible sabotage in the crash and said he has recorded his statement with the CID while submitting all related evidence.
He also raised concerns about the transparency of the investigation, alleging possible financial links between certain political leaders connected to the Union Civil Aviation Ministry and the VSR company.
Pawar claimed that funds were routed to the company through a cooperative institution allegedly linked to close associates of leaders from the Telugu Desam Party. He further alleged that some BJP leaders may also have financial ties with the company, questioning whether the probe would remain impartial.
Pawar pointed out that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which functions under the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, may also face questions over transparency. He demanded that leaders from the concerned political party should not be assigned charge of the Civil Aviation Ministry.
Emphasizing the gravity of the matter, Pawar said, "Ajit Pawar lost his life in this crash and he deserves justice. It is unfortunate that even after the death of such a senior leader, we are struggling to get an FIR registered. Our only demand is that a case be filed immediately and a transparent investigation be conducted."
He reiterated that legal action would now be pursued to ensure accountability and justice in the Baramati plane crash case.
