Pune, 10 December 2025: A tense situation unfolded at Sahyadri Hospital in Hadapsar after the death of a patient during a surgical procedure led to allegations of medical negligence and vandalism by angry relatives. The deceased was the father of Ajay Sapkal, a local office-bearer of the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction).

According to the family, Sapkal’s father was admitted for a minor surgery related to an ulcer, which reportedly required only two stitches. However, complications allegedly developed during treatment, and his condition deteriorated rapidly.

The hospital later informed the family that his lungs, kidneys, and liver had failed one after another, following which he was put on dialysis and ventilator support. He eventually died during treatment on Wednesday.

Following his death, enraged relatives gathered outside the hospital and damaged its glass entrance. Shattered glass was seen strewn near the main gate as tensions escalated. Sapkal and his supporters also launched a sit-in protest outside the hospital, demanding immediate action against those responsible.

Alleging serious negligence, Ajay Sapkal said the hospital initially assured the family that the patient was stable but later revealed multiple organ failures. He claimed excessive pressure was applied on the patient’s chest during treatment and alleged that ventilator support caused severe facial injuries.

Expressing anguish, Sapkal said that if a political worker like him could face such a situation, ordinary citizens would be even more vulnerable.

Sapkal has appealed to Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to take strict action against the hospital. He stated that the protest would continue until accountability is fixed and justice is delivered.
