Sancheti Hospital starts dance movement therapy course

Pune: Sancheti Hospital has introduced ‘Dance Movement Therapy’ certificate course, which is a new trend in healthcare in the sphere of alternative therapy.

‘Dance Movement Therapy’ (DMT) is a psychotherapeutic use of movements to promote emotional, cognitive, physical and social integration. DMT is a holistic approach to mental health, which weaves the technicality of physical, cognitive, emotional and social development. This course is in affiliation with Kinections, Rochester, New York.

“Currently, in India, we are at a wonderful juncture of huge change from the traditional field of sciences to allied sciences and therapies,” said Manisha Sanghavi, CEO, Sancheti Healthcare Academy.

The conjunction is where medical science meets the depth of art and creativity, juicing the best of both worlds, said Dr Nikita Mittal of ‘Life and Dance’, a dance therapy academy. Mittal said healthcare professionals will have an added tool and skill to further healing in patients with physical and mental health disorders.

“The beauty of this work is that it can be used for people from all walks of life,” noted Mittal.
