Sheesha den busted: Banned hookah flavours seized in Pune

Pune: After the seizure of gutkha and other illegal substance, Pune City Police on Wednesday raided multiple outlets selling banned hookah flavours.

On Wednesday, Crime Branch (Anti-Narcotics Cell) of Pune Police conducted several raids across the city. The raids were conducted in areas such as Swargate, Koregaon Park, Lashkar and Chaturshringi for allegedly selling banned hookah flavours.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta planned the raids with Senior Police Inspector Prakash Khandekar of the Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Crime Branch, the press release by Pune Police stated.

According to the police, the teams on Wednesday carried out multiple raids at shops namely Smoker World Shop in Aundh, Dishma Enterprises and Lal Deval Society, Sheesha Den in Pune Camp (Lashkar area), Essential Smoke Store in Salisbury Park, Smokes Chocolate, Little Goa and Kalandar in Koregaon Park.

The police further said that these shops were allegedly selling banned hookah flavours. As per the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA Act), eight offences have been lodged against those involved in selling the banned items. Meanwhile, different banned hookah flavours and other material, worth Rs 7,06,036 was also seized during the raids.
