Pune, 27th August 2026: With the Hinjawadi Metro corridor expected to partially open next month, the Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) have approached five major companies in Hinjawadi IT Park to build dedicated foot overbridges connecting their campuses with nearby Metro stations.
The proposed FOBs are aimed at improving pedestrian safety and reducing disruption on busy roads during peak office hours. The five companies together employ nearly 90,000 people, making safe and direct access to Metro stations particularly important.
RG Totla, executive engineer, MIDC, said two companies have agreed to undertake the projects and have received the necessary approvals. The proposed bridges will connect corporate campuses in Hinjawadi Phase 2 with the MIDC Circle, Hinjawadi Circle 1 and Hinjawadi Circle 2 Metro stations. The two campuses have a combined workforce of around 55,000 employees.
Under the arrangement, MIDC will provide land for the bridge support structures, while the respective companies will finance and execute the construction. Authorities are also discussing similar connections with three other companies, whose combined workforce is estimated at 32,000 employees.
The additional FOBs are being discussed for connections to Metro stations around Maan, Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, Hinjawadi and Hinjawadi Circle 1. Totla said discussions are in progress and the authorities are hopeful of a favourable response.
PITCMRL officials said the initiative is a joint effort with corporate establishments to provide safer pedestrian access to the Metro network. Commuters and residents have welcomed the proposals amid concerns over traffic and pedestrian safety on roads below the Metro corridor.
The direct links could also improve last-mile connectivity for employees travelling to Hinjawadi from other parts of Pune.
