Pune, 14th May 2026: After nearly three years, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has finally appointed full-time deans for its academic faculties. Four candidates have been selected for the posts as per the reservation policy followed in the recruitment process.
According to the list announced by officiating registrar Dr. Prafull Pawar, Dr. Vikram Latpate has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Dr. Dhananjay Mandlik for Commerce and Management, Dr. Prabhakar Desai for Humanities, and Dr. Sadanand Bansode for Interdisciplinary Studies.
The university had been functioning with additional charge arrangements for dean positions since the tenure of former Vice-Chancellor Dr. Nitin Karmalkar ended.
The selection process included scrutiny of applications and publication of eligible and ineligible candidate lists on two occasions before the final interviews were conducted between May 5 and 10.
Dean positions are considered crucial in university administration, particularly for taking academic and policy-related decisions. With the appointment of full-time deans after a long gap, the university is expected to witness improvements in academic management and administrative coordination.
