SPPU’s Irawati Karve Anthropology Museum to be open tomorrow

Pune: The Irawati Karve Anthropology Museum of Department of Anthropology at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will be open to the public between 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday.

The museum will be open to celebrate the birth anniversary of renowned anthropologist Irawati Karve which is on December 15.

There are a total of three galleries which consist of ‘footprint gallery- that displays the evolution of humans. Home and Hearth gallery which exhibits the culture of various tribes in India and a celebration gallery which displays many contemporary handicrafts, artefacts and ornaments etc. from various parts of India, including religious festivals.

“The anthropological museum has been an educational institution, which shows the cultural traditions of the tribals through their innovative objects and everyone should benefit from this facility,” said the head of the department Shaunak Kulkarni.
