Days after its foundation, and already breaking the internet, Cockroach Janata Party is beginning to feel the heat of sudden fame, with its founder Abhijeet Dipke now alleging that he has been receiving death threats, just a day after the party’s X account was withheld.
On Friday, Dipke posted a series of screenshots on X showing WhatsApp messages allegedly sent from unknown numbers, writing, “Receiving death threats now.” According to the screenshots, some messages warned him to join the BJP or risk being killed, even while living in the United States. Another message reportedly claimed that since the sender now had his phone number, it “wouldn’t take much time” to trace his address.
The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is a widely popular satirical digital collective and online protest movement in India. It was established on May 16, 2026, by political strategist Abhijeet Dipke in response to controversial remarks attributed to Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant, who allegedly compared unemployed young people expressing dissent online to “cockroaches” and “parasites.” The group is not registered as an official political party with the Election Commission of India.
Just six days after its creation, the parody movement has already surpassed both the BJP and Congress in Instagram followers, crossing 20 million followers online. The Cockroach Janta Party has also received support from TMC MP Mahua Moitra, Congress leader Kirti Azad, and Hotmail co-founder Sameer Bhatia. However, amid its rapid rise in popularity, the party has now reportedly begun facing backlash, with founder Abhijeet Dipke alleging that he has received death threats.
The party was formed in response to public anger over comments by Chief Justice Surya Kant, who likened certain unemployed youth to “cockroaches” and “parasites.” It has quickly expanded into one of India’s largest online satire movements.
Presenting itself as the “Voice of the Lazy & Unemployed,” the group uses parody manifestos, memes, and digital campaigns to channel the mounting frustration of young Indians over joblessness, rising living expenses, and disenchantment with politics.
The development comes a day after the party’s X account, @CJP_2029, was withheld in India following a legal demand, just five days after its launch. Despite the ban, the movement continued gaining traction online, surpassing the BJP’s Instagram following. Hours later, supporters appeared to return under a new handle, posting: “You thought you can get rid of us? Lol.”
