Thieves Continue To Target ATMs

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: Owing to the lack of adequate security measures, thieves in the city continue to target Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).

In a fresh incident, unidentified thieves were able to steal Rs 11 lakh from an ATM of a private bank in Nevalewati area of Chikhali.

The police said the ATM was filled with cash on Friday and they suspect the theft was executed on Sunday night as the incident came to light on Monday. The unidentified thieves used gas cutters to cut the machine to steal the cash. In another incident, the Nigdi police registered a case of attempted theft against three unidentified men who failed to steal cash from an ATM in Nigdi Pradhikaran area.

In another incident, the Chinchwad police arrested two men in wee hours of Thursday while they were trying to break open an ATM in Mahalunge area.

In the first week of November, the Deccan Gymkhana police had arrested a 45-year-old man while he was trying to steal cash from an ATM on Bhandarkar Road.

It must also be noted that two unidentified persons arrived in an SUV, stole an ATM with Rs 17 lakh in it from an ATM kiosk in Chakan.
