Two women dead and two missing in rural areas of district

Pune: Two women drowned and two were missing in rural parts of Pune district. Haveli, Purandar, Bhor and Baramati districts of Pune were affected due to heavy rain in Pune city and district on Tuesday night. 

Earlier, four women were reported missing following the floods in Saswad and Bhiwadi area. Officials of the district administration said heavy waterlogging was reported in many areas and five roads were shut down for traffic due to waterlogging. 

Officials said villages like Khalad, Valunj, Nilunj, Belsar, Bhiwadi, Narayanpeth, Chivewadi,  and others were affected.

The bridge from Saswad to Jejuri was shut down. Following floods in the canal near Khomanewasti in Bhiwadi village, Gajrabai Khomane (70), Chakuli Khomane(22) were washed away and their bodies recovered later.  Officials said the road from Bhor to Kapurhol to Narayanpur was impacted and traffic movement on the road was closed down. A part of the road caved in at Gogalwadi in Bhor and in Kondhanpur because of which traffic was diverted in these areas. 

Speaking on losses caused, officials said that apart from human lives and livestock there is heavy damage to crops and vehicles. The floods have damaged bridges, roads, and homes of people.
