Pune saw unseasonal rain in Diwali, bringing relief from heat.
Twin weather systems over the Bay and Arabian Sea caused scattered rain.
IMD issued a yellow alert for Pune till October 26.
Pune, 24 October 2025: Following several days of warm days and chilly nights, Pune and its neighbouring regions experienced heavy rain showers on Thursday evening. This unusual rain, which pleasantly lowered the temperature, is anticipated to persist until October 26, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The IMD said the showers are being driven by two weather systems, a well-developed low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal and another forming over the Arabian Sea. Both are expected to intensify and move west-northwest, resulting in cloudy skies and scattered rainfall across western Maharashtra.
A yellow alert has been issued for Pune, warning of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in some areas. The city experienced alternating spells of sunshine and clouds this week, with short showers recorded in several localities.
Weather officials added that parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, Marathwada, and Vidarbha may also see light to moderate rain with occasional thunderstorms over the next two to three days.
While some Pune residents expressed disappointment that the rain disrupted their Diwali decorations and outdoor celebrations, others welcomed it as a pleasant break from the recent heat.
The IMD forecast suggests that Pune will continue to see partly cloudy skies and scattered showers through the weekend, especially during the afternoons and evenings.
