Pune, 28 April 2026: A suspected track-switching failure led to the derailment of a coach of the Vande Bharat Express at Pune Railway Station on Monday evening. The incident took place around 7:30 PM as the train was entering Platform No. 3.

The CSMT–Solapur Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22225) was transitioning from the main line toward the platform when one of its coaches derailed near a diamond crossing.

According to preliminary findings, while the engine successfully moved onto the correct track, a coach behind it failed to switch tracks properly.

Railway sources stated that the derailment likely occurred due to a mismatch in track alignment at the crossing point. The affected coach’s trolley slipped off the rails during the transition, leading to the incident.

Despite the derailment, there were no reports of injuries or casualties. All passengers onboard were safe, and railway staff responded promptly to manage the situation and ensure safety.

Officials said the incident happened during the train’s approach to Platform No. 3 and confirmed that a detailed inquiry will be conducted to determine the exact cause. An investigation committee is expected to be formed soon.

The railway authorities also noted that upgrade work at the Pune station yard, including improvements to the diamond crossing, is already planned as part of ongoing remodelling efforts to enhance safety and operations.
