Pune: Vidya Niketan English Medium School bagged CEE's Green Flag Award for 2016-17 for carrying out the internationally acclaimed eco-school's seven-step methodology for environment sustainability in the school. 

The school has scored 85 points out of 100 and was awarded by the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), a national institution established by the Ministry of Environment which promotes conservation and sustainable use of nature and natural resources, leading to better environment and quality of life. 

Assistant Headmistress Vasantha Ramakrishna accepted the award from Kartikeya Sarabhai, Director of CEE, Sukhprit Laura, Eco-schools National Coordinator and Pramod Dharma, Programme, Director of CEE, at a ceremony held in Ahmedabad on November 27. 

Under the eco-schools programme, the school has to follow a seven-step method which includes environmental review, classroom activities, action and democratic participation of students from Std I to V on themes like healthy living, biodiversity, energy and waste. 

"This is an international programme held in 67 countries, from which the best schools get the green flag award. We are fortunate to be one among them. Earlier, our school was awarded the Handprint Flag for the biodiversity theme for the year 2015-16. This year, the school has successfully implemented all the four themes and was awarded for the same," said Vidya Gaikwad, Principal of the School.
