Pune: Wagholi Water Supply Disrupted as Bhima River Level Drops

Pune Municipal Corporation explores alternative water sources; residents may face shortage for a week

Pune, 19th October 2026: Water supply to Wagholi has been disrupted after the water level in the Bhima River at the Wadhu Khurd bund dropped, leaving the jackwell supplying the area without water. The disruption has triggered a water shortage, with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) working to restore supply and arrange alternative sources.

The water stored at the Wadhu Khurd bund has depleted, stopping the flow of water into the jackwell that supplies Wagholi. Corporator Ramdas Dabhade and PMC officials inspected the site to assess the situation and discuss possible solutions.

The civic administration has written to the Water Resources Department, seeking the immediate release of water into the river to restore the supply system.

PMC is exploring ways to provide water to Wagholi through the Bhama Askhed pipeline and the Lashkar water supply department. However, activating these alternatives may take around a week, during which residents are likely to face water shortages.

The disruption has forced residents to purchase water from tankers. PMC has appealed to people to use available water carefully until regular supply resumes.

Eknath Gadekar, executive engineer of PMC's water supply department, said the administration was pursuing the release of water into the Bhima River on a priority basis. Regular supply will resume once sufficient water reaches the jackwell.
