According to officials, the youth had come to the department to discuss his pending property tax dues under the ongoing amnesty scheme, which is valid until February 15. Around 3:15 pm, he inquired about his outstanding amount.

After being informed about the dues, he reportedly became agitated, claiming that the tax amount was excessive.

In a sudden escalation, he allegedly took out a pistol and threatened staff members. He then placed the weapon against his own head and declared that he would commit suicide, stepping outside the office area. The dramatic scene created fear among employees, including women staff members present at the time.

Officials from the PMC’s security department rushed to the spot, and attempts were made to calm the youth. A corporator also intervened to persuade him. Following the incident, the civic administration initiated legal action, and a complaint was filed late Friday night at the Shivajinagar Police Station.

Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram described the episode as extremely serious. “A young man threatened to commit suicide by pointing a pistol at his head inside the Property Tax Department office. This is a very serious matter. A police complaint will be filed against him, and we will also discuss with the police the seizure of his weapon,” he said.

Security officials confirmed that further legal procedures were underway late into the night.
