‘Astrobiology needs to be promoted’

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: While astronomy and astrophysics are popular subjects among students, astrobiology is a field that many are unaware of. The work done by astrobiology experts, which involves a lot of important research, needs to be promoted in a way so that the public becomes aware of it, experts have opined.

The two-day International Conference on Astrobiology, jointly organised by PES Modern College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Savitribai Phule Pune University and Blue Marble Space Institute of Science, America, was inaugurated on Saturday.

Astrobiologist from NASA, Parag Vaishampayan, said, “There has been no evolution of life elsewhere in the universe like earth. We should have the curiosity to know what is different on earth. Astrobiology is study of life in the universe and there have been many important researches by Astrobiologists.”

Gajanan Ekbote, Executive President, PES, MC Uttam, Director of Space technology of ISRO-SPPU, Shayama Narendranath from Satellite centre ISRO, Shyamkant Deshmukh, Secretary of PES, and Principal Rajendra Zunjarrao were present.
