‘State to help CoEP become top institute’

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: “The State government will help College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP) to become the number one institute not only in the country but in the world,” said State Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant.

Praising the functioning of the CoEP, Samant said the college has finely blended the curriculum and practical knowledge in last 15 years. He was visiting the college for the first time after taking charge as minister. Sakal Media Group Chairman Pratap Pawar and College Director BB Ahuja were present.

“Although the engineering stream has seen less students over past few years, the CoEP staff with their sincere efforts present an optimistic picture. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has assured to give Rs 50 crore to CoEP for construction at its Chikhali branch. I will follow up the matter,” said Samant.

Students questioned the delay in starting work on a skywalk between the college and the hostel, and the deemed university status for the college. “I heard that the tender process is on. I will ask the PMC commissioner to issue the work order as soon as possible. As far as the deemed status is concerned, we had a meeting with stakeholders and a committee was formed to look into it. Its recommendations will be accepted by the ministry,” said Samant.

HELP FROM FIRODIA GROUP FOR COEP
Prasan Firodia, President of Aluminum Casters’ Association of India (ALUCAST) has given Rs 1.5 crore for buying modern aluminum die casting ‘Buhler Switzerland’ machine. “For modernisation of Metallurgy Department, Force Motors and Firodia Group gave Rs4 crore. The Fadnavis government gave 30 acres of land to the college at Chikhali and assured to give Rs150 crore, of which Rs50 crore was assured during the State Budget by deputy chief minister,” said Pratap Pawar.
