Cricket Australia announced its white-ball squads for the upcoming home series against India, with fast bowler Mitchell Starc returning to the ODI setup and Mitchell Marsh confirmed as captain for both formats. The biggest omission was Marnus Labuschagne, who was dropped from the ODI squad following a run of poor form. Uncapped batsman Matt Renshaw has been called up and is in line for a potential ODI debut.

For the three-match ODI series starting October 19, Starc is one of four additions to the squad that lost 2-1 to South Africa in August, alongside Renshaw, Matt Short, and Mitch Owen. Marsh will lead the side as regular captain Pat Cummins continues his recovery from lumbar bone stress, with medical staff managing his return ahead of the Ashes series in November. Labuschagne was left out after recording a top score of just 47 in his last ten ODI innings.

A separate squad was named for the first two of five T20 Internationals, which begin on October 29. Wicketkeeper Josh Inglis returns to the T20 side after recovering from a calf strain, while Nathan Ellis is also back after the birth of his first child. All-rounder Glenn Maxwell remains unavailable for the T20s due to a wrist injury he sustained in New Zealand. Cameron Green has been included in the ODI squad but will sit out the initial T20s to manage his workload for Test cricket.

Chair of Selectors George Bailey explained the decision to name a partial T20 squad, citing the need to balance preparations for next year's T20 World Cup with the upcoming Ashes. "We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket," Bailey said. "We are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead."
