The streak ends at 27: Bayern Munich crumble in late Derby collapse

Bayern, who had not lost a Bundesliga match since March 2025, appeared to be in control but a sluggish second half saw Vincent Kompany’s side crumble.

In one of the most staggering upsets of the Bundesliga season, struggling Augsburg scored twice in six minutes to secure a 2-1 comeback victory over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. The result marks the league leaders' first domestic loss of the 2025-26 campaign and their first home defeat to their Bavarian rivals in 11 years.

The turning point: Six minutes of magic

Despite dominating early possession, Bayern lacked their usual clinical edge. Harry Kane and Luis Diaz missed chances to double the lead, keeping the door open for the visitors. Augsburg, who hit the crossbar just before halftime through Robin Fellhauer, finally capitalized in the closing stages.

  • 75th Minute: Brazilian defender Arthur Chaves equalized with a header from a corner that caught Bayern’s deputy goalkeeper Jonas Urbig out of position.

  • 81st Minute: Han-Noah Massengo completed the sensational turnaround, tapping in from close range after a precise cutback from Dimitris Giannoulis.

We tried, but I don’t think we had the energy in the second half. We’ve had many victories here and have always been very happy. Now we’ve lost and have to accept it properly

Michael Olise: The lone bright spot

While the team struggled, Michael Olise continued his individual brilliance. His assist for Ito’s opener was his 14th in the league and 22nd across all competitions this season. The Frenchman nearly rescued a point with the final kick of the match, but his thunderous effort rattled the crossbar in stoppage time.

The title race

Despite the loss, Bayern remains 11 points clear at the top of the table. However, second-placed Borussia Dortmund (39 points) has a game in hand and could reduce the gap to eight points with a victory at Union Berlin. For Augsburg, the win is a massive lifeline, lifting them to 13th place and four points clear of the relegation playoff zone.
