Capgemini emerge FLAME University T20 champions

SPORTS REPORTER

Pune: Middle order batsmen Deepak Kumar and Harshal L blasted timely half-centuries to help Capgemini beat Tata Consultancy Services by six wickets to win the FLAME University Corporate Cricket T20 League 2018 title here on Saturday.

The two teams were in the final face-off after a gap of a fortnight following their semifinal wins as final could not be held on the originally scheduled date of April 8 due to technical reasons and unavailability of the FLAME University Campus Ground in Lavale. The two-month long tournament was managed by Triumph Events.

Capgemini skipper Deepak Kumar won the toss and put TCS in to bat on a perfect batting pitch that saw TCS post 157 for 5 after their prolific opener Mayank Jasore was sent packing in the second over of the match.

The other opener, Gaurav Singh, took control of the proceedings in company of Shantanu Nadkarni and the two added 51 runs for the second wicket before Gaurav (40--25b, 4x4, 2x6) was dismissed.

Nadkarni (53 not out--46b, 3x4, 1x6) then shared 49-run third wicket stand with Rahul Garg that helped TCS cross the 100-run mark. Three more wickets fell, but Nadkarni held firm to take TCS to a respectable total.

Capgemini’s chase was riddled with the fall of three wickets, two in the fifth over that reduced them to 31 for 3. That brought Harshal L and captain Deepak Kumar together and the two scored a 90-run fourth wicket stand.

Brief scores:
TCS 157 for 5 in 20 overs (Gaurav Singh 40 (25b, 4x4, 2x6), Shantanu Nadkarni 53* (46b, 3x4, 1x6), Mohammed Saleem 20 (9b, 2x4, 1x6), Chandramouli 2-24) lost to Capgemini 159 for 4 in 19.5 overs (Harshal L 54 (46b, 5x4, 2x6), Deepak Kumar 50* (37b, 3x4, 2x6), Ankush 19 (13b, 2x4), Mayank Jasore 2-23.
