The match was an end-to-end affair with both teams creating chances. India's Udanta Singh was the hero in regulation time, scoring a crucial equalizer with a brave header in the 80th minute to cancel out Jameel Al Yahmadi's opener for Oman in the 55th minute. Despite Oman being reduced to ten men in extra time, India was unable to find a winning goal, forcing the match to a penalty shootout.

The shootout was filled with drama. Lallianzuala Chhangte, Rahul Bheke, and Jithin MS all converted their spot kicks for India. The decisive moment came when Indian goalkeeper and captain Gurpreet Singh Sandhu made a full-stretch dive to save Al Yahmadi's final penalty kick, securing a historic podium finish for India and sparking wild celebrations.

The win, which comes as there have been criticisim at times for its defensive approach and poor finishing. Head coach Khalid Jamil's substitutions paid off, with Udanta Singh, a late substitute, scoring the crucial equalizer. The match was a microcosm of India's performance throughout the tournament; defensive solidity combined with a knack for capitalizing on opponent errors.

India's third-place finish is an achievement given their low FIFA ranking relative to many of the other teams in the tournament. The team's performance, particularly their defensive resilience and the leadership of Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, has been a key takeaway from coach Jamil's first assignment. The victory should provide a confidence boost as the team looks ahead to future competitions.
