IPL 2021 Auction: Where to watch, what are the rules; here’s all you need to know

Here's you all need to know about the rules, franchises and timings of Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction 2021

Chennai: IPL (Indian Premier League) 2021 Auction is here where a total of 292 cricketers are set to go under the hammer in Chennai. Earlier, 1,114 players had registered for the auction however, the final list was then cut after the eight clubs in the tournament submitted their shortlist of players.

A total of 164 Indian players, 125 overseas players while 3 players from Associate Nations will be in the list of shopping in the IPL 2021 Player Auction. It's not a big auction this year as franchises are likely to be added next year to the league but the auction will hold a huge importance. Some franchises are looking at some horses for courses but a few are expected to make big buys.

Time and venue of the auction

This year’s IPL auction will be held in Chennai on Thursday and one can watch it live from 3 pm (IST).

How many players in the auction?

A total of 164 Indian players, 125 overseas players and 3 players from Associate Nations will undergo the auction process. As of this year there will eight clubs looking for new players: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians (MI), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Rules for IPL auction

A franchise cannot spend more than their available budget. However, they have to spend at least 75 per cent of the money available for them at this year’s auction. A club can have a maximum of 8 overseas players and 17 Indian players for the cash-rich cricketing league.
