Liverpool FC crowned Premier League champions, ends 30-year title drought

Finally, after a 30-year championship drought, Liverpool has clinched the Premier League title after Chelsea beat Manchester City on Friday.

Jurgen Klopp's men sealed a 19th league for the club with a record seven games left to play after second-placed Pep Guardiola's City's defeat left them 23 points back. Liverpool on their home ground made a perfect start after COVID-19 outbreak, by thrashing Crystal Palace 4-0.

With 28 wins and only one defeat in 31 matches, Liverpool set a record-breaking speed and were 25 points clear in February which was the biggest lead in the history of Premier League.

Liverpool were last winners of England when they won the old First Division title back in 1989-90 after which they witnessed a losing streak resulting Manchester United and Arsenal, later Chelsea and Manchester City conquer the title.

The German manager after winning the title paid tribute to his predecessor, Sir Kenny Dalglish, who was the last Anfield manager to get win the title and Liverpool's former skipper Steven Gerrard.

Despite restrictions on mass gatherings amid the coronavirus crisis, Liverpool fans flocked to Anfield to show their joy at the club's success. Liverpool fans turned the atmosphere red with flares and fireworks and recited the club's popular chants and the team's anthem You'll Never Walk Alone.
