Sergio Ramos, captain of Real Madrid, has tested positive on Tuesday, according to an official statement by the club. Already out of the week's Champions League meeting with Liverpool after a calf injury, Ramos has had a challenging season with a knee surgery in February and a shin injury in mid-March.

Clarifying the same, the club also posted an official statement on their Twitter handle, saying, "Real Madrid CF announces that our player Sergio Ramos has given a positive result in the last COVID-19 test that has been carried out."

According to DPA reports, Ramos was sidelined since early April because of the injury and his recovery period was supposed to end after six weeks.

However, Ramos wasn't the first COVID-19 case that was detected in the Real Madrid team in this week. French defender Raphael Varane also tested positive last Tuesday.

Owing to his injury, Ramos was all set to miss the second leg against Liverpool on Wednesday. Madrid has a 3-1 advantage following their first leg triumph.

Madrid will also miss Dani Carvajal, Eden Hazard and Lucas Vazquez, all injured, and Raphael Varane, who tested positive for coronavirus.
