Sardar Dastur High School win cricket title

SPORTS REPORTER

Pune: Sardar Dastur Hoshang Boy’s High School had a day to remember as they were crowned champions in the boy’s cricket event at the Sakal presents Mapro Schoolympics played at the Nehru Stadium on Tuesday.

Shantanu Dhage was the man of the moment for the victorious Dastur team as they beat JN Petit Technical High school by 29 runs.

Batting first, Sardar Dastur boys posted a moderate 121/8 in 20 overs. Apart from Shantanu, key contributions from Nischay Navale (19) and some wayward bowling by the Petit bowlers helped Dastur’s cause. In pursuit of 122 to lift the trophy, JN Petit School’s innings never looked settled as they were bowled out for 92 runs in the last over of the match.

In the third place match, Jai Hind Highschool and Jr. College, Pimpri pipped Seth Dagduram Katariya High School, Gultekdi by 43 runs to seal credible third place finish in an event that saw the highest number of participants.

Batting first, Jai Hind Highschool and Jr. College posted a daunting 195 in their 20 overs owing to Suraj Gond’s swashbuckling century. He was ably supported by Atharva Wanve, who fired 44 at the fag-end of the innings to propel the team. Seth Dagduram Katariya High School, Gultekdi failed to mount serious challenge and could only muster 152/5 in their stipulated quota of 20 overs.
