Seeded players fall by the wayside

Pune: As many as six seeds including girls top seed Saanvi Raju were upset in the quarterfinals in the ICON Group “Little Champions Series” tennis tournament organised by the Pune Metropolitan District Tennis Association (PMDTA) at the Balewadi tennis complex here on Thursday.

In the biggest upset of the day, unseeded Shravee Deore beat top seeded Saanvi Raju 5-2 to enter the semifinals. In the Boys Under-12 category, ninth-seeded Avaneesh Chafale shocked sixth-seeded Amogh Damle 6-3, while No 15 seeded Archit Dhoot defeated eighth seeded Dhruv Lagade 6-2 to make it to the quarterfinals.

Boys Under-12: Pre-quarterfinals: 1-Abhiram Nilakhe bt Atharva Joshi 6-1; Atharva Yelbhar bt Rajveer Padale 6-5 (7-6); Tej Oak bt 16-Shivam Padiya 6-1; 9-Avaneesh Chafale bt 6-Amogh Damle 6-3; 15-Archit Dhoot bt 8-Dhruv Lagade 6-2; Neev Kothari bt 14-Parth Kale 6-4; 5-Arnav Bansode bt 10-Shivansh Kumar 6-2; 2-Advik Natekar bt Vedant Chavan 6-0.

Boys Under-8: Quarterfinals: 1-Anshul Pujari bt Atharva Bansode 5-2; Vedant Joshi bt 6-Yugandhar Shastri 5-2; 8-Achintya Kumar bt Neil Bondre 5-3; 2-Krishay Tawade w.o. Swaraj Bhosale.

Girls Under-12: Quarterfinals: 1-Saloni Parida bt Ananya Deshmukh 6-1; Vaishnavi Singh bt Anjali Nimbalkar 6-2; Anushka bt Durga Birajdar 6-1; Shravani Deshmukh bt Devanshree Prabhudesai 6-3.

Girls Under-8: Quarterfinals: Shravee Deore bt 1-Saanvi Raju 5-2; Avantika Saini bt Samika Kamble 5-1; Swara Jawale w.o. Ovee Marne; 2-Shrushti Suryavanshi bt Namitha Deshmukh 5-0.
