Pune, 24th June 2026: Heavy rainfall since Wednesday morning disrupted traffic movement across Pune, with waterlogging in several low-lying areas leading to slow-moving vehicles and congestion on major roads. Both central parts of the city and suburban areas witnessed traffic delays as rainwater accumulated on roads and affected the flow of vehicles.
The worst traffic congestion was reported on Ganeshkhind Road, Pune Station area, Deccan, RTO Chowk and around Shaniwar Wada. Long queues of vehicles were also seen on Bajirao Road, Shivaji Road, Jangli Maharaj Road, Tilak Road, Karve Road, Solapur Road and Nagar Road.
Commuters in several areas spent significantly more time on the road than usual due to the slow traffic. Many reported delays in reaching workplaces and other destinations as vehicles moved at a sluggish pace across key routes.
Traffic remained slow between 8 a.m. and noon as rainfall continued and vehicle movement became difficult on several stretches. Conditions improved briefly after the intensity of rain reduced and the number of vehicles on roads declined.
However, congestion on major roads prompted motorists to use internal and narrow roads as alternate routes, increasing traffic pressure in residential areas as well. The situation worsened at some locations after traffic signals stopped functioning because of the rain.
To manage the increased traffic load, the traffic police deployed additional personnel at important junctions and major roads. In a few areas, fallen tree branches also affected vehicle movement and contributed to delays, while authorities advised commuters to remain cautious as intermittent showers continue across the city.
