PUNE: A year after she was honoured with Arjuna Award for her outstanding performance in the 2017 World Cup, Indian woman cricketer Smirti Mandhana has been chosen by the Maharashtra State Government for Chhatrapati Sports Award.

An announcement to this effect was made on Wednesday in which Chhatrapati Awards for sportspersons, coaches, organisers and also Jijamata and Eklavya Awards were declared for the period 2017-18.

Among the notable awardees were Mandhana, currently Indian women’s T20 Vice-captain. The Mumbai-born Sangli girl has been in impressive form since she returned from injury in 2017 and following her exploits with the bat she was awarded Arjuna Award in 2018.

Earlier, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named her as the Best Women’s International Cricketer in June 2018 and in December, the International Cricket Council (ICC) awarded her with the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Award for the best female cricketer of the year. She was also named the ODI Player of the Year by the ICC at the same time.

Also getting into the list of awardees was tennis player Rutuja Bhosale, who is currently ranked 351 on the WTA list and has two ITF singles titles in her cabinet.
