Thai shuttlers Chaiwan and Vitidsarn are champs

SPORTS REPORTER

Pune: Top seeds Chaiwan Pattarasuda and Vitidsarn Kunlavut had a day to savour as they triumphed in Women’s singles and Men’s singles category to give Thailand a double crown at the Yonex Sunrise India Junior Grand Prix at the PDMBA courts here on Sunday.

Vitidsarn started  the proceedings on Sunday with a straightforward 21-16, 21-11 win over India’s Rahul Bharadwaj in  a contest that lasted for just half an hour. The partisan home crowd cheered Rahul on, but he was not helped by Vitidsarn’s precise court play in a one-sided affair.

Such was Vitidsarn’s dominance, that he ended up taking 11 straight points in the second game, making his opponent look like a virtual passenger.

In the second match of the day, Japanese duo Takuma Obayashi and Natsu Saito upset top seeds Rinov Rivaldy and Angelica Wiratama  18-21, 21-16, 21-17 in just under an hour to bring laurels to their country.

In Women’s doubles category, Korean pair of Ji Min Kim and Ah Yeong Seong lived up to their billing as top seeds as they beat their Indonesian opponents

Agatha Imanuela and Siti Fadia Silva 21-15, 21-19 in just under 40 minutes to clinch the title. The Koreans were much superior to the second seed Indonesians and made them commit unforced errors at regular junctures throughout the match.

In Women’s  singles category, Chaiwan Pattarasuda made light work of her unseeded opponent from Japan Moto Hayashi to win 21-19, 21-12. The top ranked Chaiwan needed just about half an hour to make it two titles for Thailand for the day. Chaiwan started off on a positive note, taking a 11-4 lead at the interval.
