West Indies leveled their three-match ODI series against Bangladesh 1-1 after clinching a Super Over victory in a match dominated by spin bowling. Both teams finished their regulation 50 overs tied on 213-9, setting up a tense finish decided by the tie-breaker. The match also made history with spinners bowling a record 92 out of the 100 overs.
They became the first team ever to bowl a full 50 overs using only spin bowlers. Five different spinners each bowled 10 overs, restricting Bangladesh to 213-7 after the hosts chose to bat first. Gudakesh Motie, 3-65, Alick Athanaze, 2-14 and Akeal Hosein, 2-41 were the wicket-takers. Soumya Sarkar ,45 and a late unbeaten 39 off 14 balls from No. 11 Rishad Hossain took the charge for Bangladesh.
Chasing 214, West Indies were guided by captain Shai Hope, with an unbeaten 53. Despite losing wickets regularly, particularly to leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, 3-42, Hope kept his side in the hunt. The chase came down to the final over, with West Indies needing five runs. Saif Hassan bowled tightly, removing Akeal Hosein with the penultimate ball, leaving three runs needed off the last delivery.
A dramatic finish ensued when Khary Pierre top-edged the final ball. Wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan dropped the catch, allowing Pierre and Hope to scramble two runs, tying the scores and forcing a Super Over. Bangladesh's first tie in their international cricket history. In the Super Over, West Indies scored 10 runs, with Hope hitting a crucial boundary. Akeal Hosein then defended the total, restricting Bangladesh to nine runs despite starting with wides and a no-ball, sealing a one-run Super Over win.
The match set a new record for the most overs bowled by spinners in an ODI, 92, surpassing the previous mark of 78. West Indies' 50 overs of spin also broke Sri Lanka's 1996 record of 44 overs. The series decider will take place at the same venue on Thursday.
