Ever wished you could have a ChatGPT conversation with your friends or family all in one place? Well, now you can! After successful testing in Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Taiwan, ChatGPT has rolled out its new group chat feature globally, including for users in India. This feature lets you collaborate, share ideas, and interact with the AI together in a single conversation.
Up to twenty individuals can participate in a group chat simultaneously. Users can rename their group chat by selecting it from the left hamburger menu. OpenAI has announced the global rollout of Group chats in ChatGPT. This feature is now available to all logged-in users on ChatGPT's Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans.
If the group chat feature is not visible to you, it might not have been enabled for your account yet. Since the rollout is happening worldwide, it may take a while before it becomes available to everyone. To check if you have access to group chat, simply click on the people icon located at the top right corner of any new or existing conversation.

1. Tap the people icon on any new or existing chat to start a group conversation.
2. Invite 1–20 participants via a shareable link; members can share the link to add others.
3. Set up an optional profile with name, username, and photo when joining or creating a group.
4. Group chats appear in a sidebar with options to name the group, mute notifications, or manage members; creators can only exit.
5. ChatGPT participates only when tagged or based on custom settings, respecting conversation flow.
6. Personal memories from individual chats do not carry over, maintaining privacy.
7. AI responses use GPT-5.1 Auto to choose the best model based on context and plan.
8. Safeguards limit exposure for users under 18; parents can control group chat access.
