Chrome for iPhone Now Supports Easy Switching Between Work and Personal Accounts

New Google Chrome Feature on iOS Enhances User Convenience and Boosts Productivity

Pragati Chougule

Google Chrome has rolled out a new update for its iOS version that allows iPhone users to seamlessly switch between personal and work accounts within the browser. This long-awaited feature, already available on desktop and Android versions for some time, is now finally making its way to Apple's mobile ecosystem much to the delight of professional and personal users alike.

With millions of people now using their smartphones for a mix of personal browsing and work tasks, this new feature promises to dramatically improve productivity and security, all while keeping data from different accounts separated.

The newly introduced account switcher allows users to toggle between Google profiles with just a few taps. Once logged in with multiple Google accounts, a user can:

  • Switch between work and personal profiles effortlessly

  • Autofill data like passwords, bookmarks, and history specific to the active profile

  • Keep browsing data such as history, search preferences, and cookies compartmentalized per account

  • Easily access relevant work documents or personal email, depending on the selected profile

This change brings Chrome for iOS in line with the desktop and Android versions, which have supported multi-profile management for years.

Until now, Chrome users on iOS had to manually manage account settings, often leading to data overlap, login hassles, or simply avoiding Chrome for professional use altogether. With this update:

  • Professionals can access enterprise environments (like Gmail for Work or Google Drive for Business) without interfering with personal settings.

  • Families sharing a single iPhone or users juggling freelance work and a day job can now enjoy clean user separation.

  • It eliminates the need for multiple browsers or containers to manage different contexts.

This is especially beneficial for users working in hybrid environments, where personal and work devices often overlap.

Each profile in Google Chrome is sandboxed, meaning that one's personal browsing history or saved passwords will not be accessible when a work profile is active and vice versa. This separation is vital for users in legal, healthcare, IT, and other industries where data confidentiality is key.

Also, since different security settings can be defined on a per-account basis, enterprises can enforce policies on employee work profiles while leaving personal accounts untouched.

Google has confirmed that the feature is being rolled out gradually to all iOS users worldwide. If the option isn’t visible yet, users are advised to ensure they are on the most up-to-date version of Chrome or wait a few days as the update propagates.

The update not only modernizes the Chrome iOS experience but also aligns it more closely with user expectations in a multi-account, multitasking world.
