Elon Musk-owned X has launched X Money across the United States, expanding its integrated payments service beyond its initial beta rollout. The feature is now available to Premium and Premium+ subscribers, marking the platform's latest step towards adding financial services to its social media app.
According to X, the service enables users to send, receive and request money directly within the app. Subscribers can also link external bank accounts, receive direct deposits, pay bills, transfer funds and access a Visa debit card linked to their X Money account.
The service is powered by Cross River Bank, which provides FDIC-insured deposit accounts with coverage of up to $250,000. X said users will also be able to earn interest on wallet balances and receive cashback on eligible debit card purchases.
The nationwide launch follows a phased rollout that began in June with a limited group of Premium+ subscribers before expanding to more verified users. The wider release is now available to eligible subscribers across the US.
The launch marks another milestone in Musk's plan to transform X into an "everything app" offering services beyond social networking.
X has secured money transmitter licences in more than 40 US states, though approvals are still pending elsewhere. The service has also drawn scrutiny from US lawmakers over consumer protection and financial oversight. Its launch puts X Money in competition with platforms such as Venmo, Cash App and Apple Wallet.
An India rollout would also require an RBI-licensed banking partner and compliance with India's UPI-dominated payments rules, a heavier lift than the US launch. For now, any India timeline remains speculative.
