“At I/O, we announced we are working with Samsung and our partners Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to design stylish, lightweight glasses that you can wear comfortably all day. With our partners, we are working to create two types of glasses. The first glasses will arrive next year,” said the company.

Two Types of AI Glasses

Google is collaborating with Samsung, Gentle Monster, and Warby Parker to create lightweight, stylish smart glasses that are comfortable enough to wear all day. The company introduced two distinct models:

AI Glasses (Screen-Free Assistance):

  • Equipped with built-in speakers, microphones, and cameras.

  • Enable natural interaction with Gemini AI, allow users to take photos, and provide contextual assistance without a display.

Display AI Glasses:

  • Feature an in-lens display that delivers private, real-time information.

  • Can display turn-by-turn navigation, live translation captions, and other helpful overlays directly in the user’s line of sight.

Google asserts that the glasses are crafted to effortlessly blend into users' everyday lives. These smart glasses from Google will provide hands-free AI support for a range of activities, including recalling important information or inquiring about the environment. Additionally, the glasses will enhance communication capabilities through a translation feature.

Google says AI and XR devices should fit naturally into daily life. The new smart glasses, part of its Android XR expansion alongside the Samsung Galaxy XR headset and Project Aura from XREAL, balance style, weight, and immersion.

To support developers, Google released Developer Preview 3 of the Android XR SDK, giving early partners like Uber and GetYourGuide tools to create augmented experiences for the AI glasses.
