Google’s Pixel 8 Now Made in India; What It Means for Tech & Economy

Google has achieved a major milestone by rolling out its first-ever Made in India Pixel 8 smartphones, marking a significant shift in its manufacturing strategy. This bold move aligns with India's "Make in India" initiative and positions Google as a key player in the growing Indian smartphone market. The locally manufactured Pixel 8 devices are now available in India, showcasing Google's commitment to streamlining operations and offering competitive pricing.

Google has partnered with Dixon Technologies and Padget Electronics, leveraging their expertise to assemble the Pixel 8 series in India.Trial production began in Tamil Nadu through Foxconn, while Dixon handles the base Pixel variants.

Dixon Technologies is expected to produce 100,000 units per month, with plans to export 25–30% of these devices globally.This marks Google's entry into India's thriving smartphone manufacturing ecosystem, which already hosts giants like Apple.

The Pixel 8 boasts a 6.2-inch OLED display, powered by the Google Tensor G3 processor, ensuring smooth performance and multitasking.It includes a dual-camera system featuring a 50-megapixel main sensor and an ultrawide sensor, backed by a long-lasting 4575mAh battery.

Google aims to ship over 10 million Pixel phones globally this year, building on its success of approximately 10 million units shipped in 2023. By making India an export hub for its Pixel range, Google strengthens its supply chain while tapping into international markets.

At Google's recent "Made by Google" event held on August 13, 2024, the company unveiled its next-generation Pixel series,Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel Fold, alongside other products like the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2. These launches reflect Google's ambition to integrate AI-driven features into their devices while competing with rivals like Apple.

The rollout of Made-in-India Google Pixel 8 smartphones marks a pivotal moment for both Google and India's manufacturing sector. As Google deepens its presence in India’s smartphone market, consumers can look forward to innovative devices at competitive prices.
