the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has announced the selection of three more AI startups; Soket AI Labs, Gnani.ai, and Gan.ai to spearhead the development of advanced large language models (LLMs) under the ambitious IndiaAI mission. This initiative aims to boost indigenous AI capabilities and foster a robust ecosystem for digital transformation across sectors.

Soket AI Labs

  • Project: 120 Billion Parameter Foundational Model

  • Focus: Soket AI Labs will develop a massive foundational LLM with 120 billion parameters, designed to power a wide range of applications, from enterprise automation to advanced research. This model aims to rival the world’s best, enabling India to reduce reliance on foreign AI technologies and drive innovation in sectors like healthcare, education, and governance.

Gnani.ai

  • Project: 14 Billion Parameter Voice AI Foundational Model

  • Focus: Renowned for its conversational AI and speech-to-text solutions, Gnani.ai will build a 14 billion parameter Voice AI model. This LLM will specialize in natural language understanding and generation for voice-based applications, supporting over 40 Indian and global languages. The model will enhance customer experience, accessibility, and multilingual communication across public and private services.

Gan.ai

  • Project: 70 Billion Parameter Multilingual Foundational Model

  • Focus: Gan.ai will develop a 70 billion parameter multilingual model, targeting seamless language translation, content generation, and cross-lingual understanding. This model is set to empower India’s diverse linguistic landscape, supporting regional languages and enabling digital inclusion for millions of users.

The announcement has been widely welcomed by India’s technology and startup communities. Experts highlight the importance of foundational models that cater to India’s multilingual and multicultural society, noting that such initiatives will accelerate digital transformation in fields like agriculture, healthcare, financial services, and education.

Dr. Anjali Sharma, an AI policy analyst, commented, “By empowering startups like Soket AI Labs, Gnani.ai, and Gan.ai, India is taking a bold step towards technological sovereignty and inclusive growth. These models will not only power new applications but also create opportunities for research, entrepreneurship, and global collaboration.”
