In an announcement at MWC 2025 in Barcelona, Jio Platforms, AMD, Cisco, and Nokia unveiled their collaborative project the Open Telecom AI Platform. This initiative is poised to redefine the telecommunications industry by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) across all network domains. The platform aims to deliver a central intelligence layer for telecom and digital services, revolutionising network operations with automation and AI-driven insights.
The Open Telecom AI Platform is designed to enable end-to-end intelligence for network management and operations. It leverages multiple advanced technologies, including large language models (LLMs), domain-specific small language models (SLMs), and machine learning techniques. The platform is LLM-agnostic, meaning it can work with various AI models through open APIs to optimise functionality.
The platform’s architecture is multi-layered and multi-domain. Each layer will have its own agentic AI capability, orchestrated by an overarching AI manager that selects the most suitable LLM for specific tasks. This approach ensures flexibility and adaptability across diverse telecom environments.

Jio Platforms’ CEO Mathew Oommen emphasised that this project is not just about creating a product but about transforming how telecom networks operate globally. “We don’t want to take years to create something,” he stated, hinting at a product launch within 2025. The platform's virtual nature ensures it can adapt quickly to evolving needs without relying on physical infrastructure.
