Meta is testing a new artificial intelligence-powered application called StoryKit that enables parents to create personalised storybooks for children using generative AI, according to reports. The app is currently available as a limited pilot in select countries.

According to Meta, StoryKit allows users to generate customised stories by creating a character, such as from a photograph of a child's favourite toy or person, selecting a setting and choosing a theme or lesson. The app then produces an illustrated story with accompanying audio across categories including bedtime, adventure and learning.

The company said the app includes AI safety filters, has no social sharing features and is restricted to users aged 18 and above, meaning children cannot use it independently.

StoryKit was first spotted on Apple's App Store by 9to5Mac before Meta confirmed the pilot to several media outlets. The company has not announced a timeline for a wider rollout.

The pilot marks Meta's latest effort to expand consumer applications of generative AI beyond its existing chatbot and image-generation features integrated into Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. The company said the app is intended to help parents create personalised stories rather than replace shared reading experiences.

The launch comes as technology companies continue exploring AI-powered consumer products for education, creativity and family use. Meta has not disclosed how many users are participating in the pilot or which countries have been included in the initial testing phase.
