Microsoft has announced the addition of ‘deep reasoning’ capabilities to its Microsoft 365 Copilot, enhancing its AI-powered tools for research and data analysis. This new feature introduces two specialized agents, Researcher and Analyst, which leverage OpenAI's advanced reasoning models to perform complex tasks that require nuanced understanding and methodical thinking. The Researcher agent is designed to automate intricate, multi-step research processes, enabling users to generate detailed reports on various business topics by integrating internal enterprise data with external market information.

These advancements allow the Copilot to handle ambiguous business processes similarly to a skilled professional, making it particularly useful for tasks such as developing go-to-market strategies or identifying new business opportunities based on emerging trends. The deep reasoning capabilities will be accessible to Microsoft 365 Copilot subscribers starting in April through a new Frontier program, which provides early access to innovative features.

Additionally, Microsoft plans to debut these deep reasoning functionalities in the Copilot Studio, a platform that enables users to create and manage their own AI agents. This integration will facilitate more thoughtful decision-making and data analysis across various business processes, such as demand forecasting and supply chain optimisation.

With the introduction of these powerful tools, Microsoft aims to enhance productivity and streamline workflows for millions of users relying on its suite of applications. As AI continues to evolve, these updates position Microsoft at the forefront of leveraging advanced technology for practical business solutions.
