As AI-powered voice search becomes a common feature across digital platforms, Netflix is reportedly testing its own AI-driven search tool to make content discovery faster and more personalised for users. The feature is currently available in beta for a limited group of users in the United States and is being tested on select devices.

AI Search Beyond Keywords

While we can search for content online via voice dictation, it merely presents results based on keywords. However, the new native AI-based voice search tool will provide contextual search results, taking the intent of the user's query into account.

Reports indicate that the new search system relies on artificial intelligence to interpret user intent and deliver suggestions driven by moods, preferences, and contextual cues, rather than simple keyword-based queries.

The feature is reportedly functioning on devices like Chromecast with Google TV and TCL Google TV, but it is currently not available on Roku or Fire TV devices.

The company has not yet revealed when the stable version of the AI search tool will be released to a broader global audience. Currently accessible in beta to a limited group of users, the content streaming company is inviting them to try the new feature and share feedback on potential improvements, as well as report any bugs or problems.

How to Use Netflix’s New AI Voice Search Feature

Step 1: Open the Netflix app on your smartphone or tablet

Step 2: Tap the Search icon from the home screen. Select the “Try a new way to search” option.

Step 3: Tap “Learn More” and then select “Try Now” to join the beta feature.

Step 4: Once enabled, use the AI voice search by choosing suggested prompts like “Something funny and upbeat” or speak your own search request naturally.

Users testing Netflix’s AI voice search can use natural prompts like “I need a good cry” or “movies after a long, tiring day” through the new “Ask” button. The system understands complex, context-based queries and suggests relevant titles accordingly.

However, the beta version has limitations. It does not yet use viewing history for personalised recommendations, responds only in text, and may occasionally produce incorrect suggestions, though such cases are rare.
