Netflix has once again raised subscription prices across all tiers in the United States, making this the streaming giant’s second increase of the year. The ad-supported plan now costs $8.99 per month, up from $7.99, while the standard plan has jumped to $19.99 from $17.99. The premium plan has also risen to $26.99, compared with $24.99 previously.

Earlier in January, Netflix had increased its subscription fees by $2.50 per month. With this latest hike, users across all plans are seeing higher costs as the platform continues to invest in content and services. The cost for extra members has also gone up: ad-supported add-ons are now $6.99 each, increased from $5.99, while ad-free add-ons are now $9.99 each, up from $8.99.

Netflix's new pricing structure

  • Ad-supported plan: Now $8.99 per month (previously $7.99)

  • Standard plan: Now $19.99 per month (previously $17.99)

  • Premium plan: Now $26.99 per month (previously $24.99)

Reason Behind Netflix’s Subscription Hike

Netflix says the recent price hikes are aimed at supporting its expanding content investments. The streaming giant plans to spend $20 billion on content in 2026, up from $18 billion in 2025.

Netflix’s content investment plan include:

  • Expansion into live events and video podcasts

  • Diversification beyond traditional streaming shows and movies

  • Focus on delivering a broad range of programming to justify higher subscription fees

This marks the second price increase by Netflix this year. As noted earlier, the company implemented a price hike in January. "As we continue to invest in content and provide greater value to our members, we will at times ask them to pay slightly more so that we can reinvest in further enhancing Netflix," the company said in its letter to investors.

Will Netflix’s Price Hike Impact India?

Netflix’s recent US subscription hike does not affect Indian users. Plans in India start at Rs 149/month for the basic tier, Rs 499/month for the standard plan, and Rs 649/month for the premium plan with 4K and multi-device support. Despite stable prices, Netflix faces strong competition from JioHotsar, Amazon Prime Video, and Jio Cinema, and earlier this year even reduced the basic plan from Rs 199 to Rs 149 to attract more subscribers.
