OpenAI to Nearly Double Workforce to 8,000 by 2026: Report

Artificial intelligence company OpenAI is reportedly preparing to nearly double its headcount, increasing its workforce from 4,500 to 8,000 employees by the end of 2026, according to the Financial Times, which cited two sources familiar with the matter.

The ChatGPT-maker is reportedly increasing hires for specialists in “technical ambassadorship,” with the goal of helping businesses optimize their use of its tools, the report added.

OpenAI intends to allocate the majority of its new employees to roles in product development, engineering, research, and sales.

The company's most recent funding round assessed its value at $840 billion, as major tech firms and Masayoshi Son's Softbank participated in its impressive $110 billion round.

In early December of the previous year, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is said to have declared an internal "code red," halting non-essential projects and reallocating teams to speed up development in reaction to Google's Gemini 3.
