Spain's football team is being celebrated well beyond the football world after clinching the FIFA World Cup 2026 title, with major tech CEOs joining world leaders in congratulating the champions on social media.

Spain lifted the trophy after a hard-fought final, with the tournament wrapping up its historic run as the first World Cup jointly hosted across the US, Canada, and Mexico, and the first to feature an expanded 48-team format. Following the victory, US President Donald Trump presented the trophy to the Spanish team.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to X to post a simple, enthusiastic message of congratulations to Spain, joining a wave of high-profile figures marking the win online. Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Apple CEO Tim Cook also shared congratulatory messages for Spain's victory, continuing a now-familiar pattern of tech leaders publicly celebrating major sporting moments alongside political figures. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also congratulated the winners, writing that "Today Europe celebrates with you."

The show of support from Silicon Valley's biggest names underscores just how much the World Cup final has become a global cultural moment that transcends football alone, drawing commentary from heads of state, city mayors, and tech billionaires alike.

For companies whose executives are typically associated with AI breakthroughs and chip shortages, moments like these are a reminder that even the world's most powerful tech leaders aren't immune to getting swept up in football fever once every four years.
