To kickstart the initiative, the School Education Department—along with partners like Amazon Future Engineer and the Pi Jam Foundation—has begun distributing 2,000 laptops across Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and other state-run institutions, aiming to bridge the digital divide.

From the 2025–26 academic year, students from Classes 5 to 9 will be introduced to a structured digital curriculum designed by SCERT Telangana. The focus goes beyond basic computer skills, encouraging students to understand and engage with emerging technologies in a more meaningful way.

Key highlights of the programme

  • AI-focused curriculum covering computational thinking, design, and digital citizenship

  • Hands-on learning through a dedicated platform for real-world experimentation

  • Over 28,000 teachers trained to deliver around 25 hours of AI education annually

  • Laptop distribution to improve access and reduce the digital gap

Officials say the goal is to help students become active creators of technology rather than passive users. With India preparing for a broader AI push in the coming years, Telangana’s model could serve as a blueprint for scaling tech-driven education across the country.
