Inquiries regarding the religious beliefs of actor Zayed Khan's mother, Zarine Katrak, emerged following her funeral on November 7. Previously, in a discussion with Simi Garewal, Zarine had mentioned that she was a 'Zoroastrian girl.'
Zarine Katrak, aged 81, has died following a period of age-related health issues. According to sources, Zarine Katrak, who was Hrithik Roshan's mother-in-law, had been dealing with these ailments for some time. She passed away on November 7 at her home in Mumbai.
In a past episode of the show 'Rendezvous With Simi Garewal,' Zarine and her husband Sanjay Khan discussed how they fell in love and eventually got married.
Sanjay said: “When I met Zarine I knew I found the girl I wanted to marry. I felt comfortable. I enjoyed looking at her face. Those lovely eyes… She had juicy lips… she had the most scintillating smile and terrific figure. She was pink."
He mentioned, "She had a hearty appetite and my mother would ensure she ate well, and she really enjoyed the meals at our home. She was always by my side, like a shadow, and I felt most at ease with her."
Zarine Katrak mentioned that she and Sanjay were complete opposites. She described him as wearing a white shirt, pants with Kolhapuri sandals, holding a Tolstoy book, and having a serious and charismatic demeanor, while she was a modern Zoroastrian girl in skirts and rock and roll shoes.
In Zoroastrianism, the cremation process is known as Dokhmenashini. The deceased is placed in a Tower of Silence, or Dakhma, which is a circular structure where the body is exposed to sunlight. Subsequently, birds such as vultures, eagles, and crows consume the body.
In recent years, Zoroastrians have turned to alternative methods because of the sharp decrease in vulture populations in India. Even the renowned industrialist Ratan Tata's funeral was conducted at a crematorium in Mumbai.
