Pune: The Pune railway division is set to establish a new coaching depot at Alandi station on the Pune-Satara railway line, with an estimated investment of ₹90 crore. This facility will be capable of maintaining and repairing 100 coaches daily, making it the second coaching depot in the Pune railway division. It will also provide maintenance services for Vande Bharat Express and New Modified Goods (NMG) coaches.

Due to limited space at Pune railway station, the railway administration has been actively seeking locations nearby for expansion projects. After setting up terminals in Hadapsar and Khadki, the administration has now selected Alandi station for the new coaching depot. The station has ample railway-owned land, making it a suitable choice for the project.

The depot will be developed over 10 acres, featuring specialized facilities such as pit lines, stabling lines, and a sick line. The proposal has already received approval from Central Railway and has now been submitted to the Railway Board for final clearance. Once sanctioned, funding will be allocated, and construction will commence.

Currently, the Pune railway division handles maintenance for 23 train rakes. Once operational, the new depot will enable the division to manage more trains, ultimately benefiting passengers by increasing the number of train services.

At present, the Ghorpadi Coaching Maintenance Complex (GCMC) manages the upkeep of 300 coaches daily. Given the anticipated increase in train services from Pune, JCMC is expected to face additional strain. However, the new depot at Alandi will help distribute the workload, improving efficiency and ensuring smoother railway operations.

Depot Infrastructure and Key Features

  • Three pit lines (each 600 meters long) for coach repairs.

  • Two stabling lines for parking trains.

  • One sick line to isolate and repair defective coaches.

  • Dedicated maintenance staff to ensure quick repairs.

  • Loop line availability at Alandi station will improve railway traffic management.
