Pune: A shocking incident at an English medium school in Daund has sent ripples across the education sector. A student allegedly offered ₹100 to a ninth-grade peer to harm and kill a classmate in retaliation for reporting a forgery.
The incident, which took place on January 22, 2025, came to light when the victim's classmate informed her of the plot. The events began when a student was caught forging their parent's signature, a fact reported to the class teacher by the victim. Angered by the complaint, the accused allegedly hired another student to assault and kill the girl.
The girl shared this alarming information with her parents, who immediately approached the school authorities, including the principal and class teacher. However, the school administration allegedly attempted to suppress the matter, prompting the parents to file a formal complaint with the Daund Police Station.
Case Registered Against Principal and Teachers
Based on the complaint, a case has been registered against the school’s principal, Demello Jovin, the class teacher, and another teacher. The complaint accuses the school of trying to cover up the incident and causing mental distress to the victim, which affected her academic performance.
Concerns Over Student Mentality
The incident has raised serious concerns about the mindset of students and the presence of violent tendencies at such a young age. Experts and parents are questioning how such thoughts arise and emphasizing the need for schools to be safe spaces for children.
Blow to Trust in Educational Institutions
This incident has dealt a severe blow to the trust parents place in schools to ensure the safety of their children. Allegations of the school administration attempting to suppress the matter rather than taking appropriate action have further eroded confidence in the institution’s ability to handle such issues responsibly.
